Welcome to the Destination Cape Verde website, specialists in the promotion of tourism and investment in the Cape Verde islands.
'Paradise..............it's closer than you think'
Situated a few hours flight south of the Canary Islands and on the same latitude as the Caribbean, Cape Verde is the closest tropical island destination to
Europe. The islands have a huge tourism potential because of their natural attractions which include brilliant sunny days, amazing
mountain scenery, a crystal clear blue sea and beautiful unspoiled sandy beaches. This hidden paradise in the Atlantic Ocean is made up of 9 inhabited
islands and is located 300 miles off the west coast of Africa. The Islands have their own diverse environments and range of facilities but all possess a
wonderful year round climate.
The Cape Verde Islands are an ex Portugese colony having gained independence in 1975 but still retain a European legal and government system which makes them an attractive proposition for investors. The islanders have also retained their own identity and language, a fusion of the best of Africa and Europe, resulting in a vibrant Creole culture similar to that in Brazil. Cape Verde has little crime, a stable democratic government and a slow pace of life and so is an ideal choice for those who seek a unique holiday experience in an uncertain world.
The islands have been on TV recently featured on the BBC`s holiday programme as the 'hottest new tourist destination for 2006' and on Channel 4 as one of the
'top 20 worlds best property investment sites'. Tourism is now Cape Verde's number one industry and visitors are offered the opportunity to relax under the
sun or participate in numerous water sports. Direct flights from London will start in November 2006 and Thompson Holidays will offer
flight + hotel packages from May 2007. Direct flights are due to start from Dublin in late 2006 for winter holidays.
